This afternoon Jonathan and I ventured out for our first real ride here in NZ. We both had been out briefly after Jonathan set up our bikes after arrival, and Jonathan had ridden around looking for work and to the store, but this was the first real ride.
As I’ve mentioned before, the roads here in Wellington are narrow, winding, and steep, much like San Francisco. Both cities are built on hilly terrain next to bays. Out driving we found a road that actually has a shoulder much of the time and is away from the city so it doesn’t have too much traffic. It does run up a draw so it’s fairly steep, but that’s OK. It reminds me a lot of riding South Fork from Vivian Park to the Trifoil ranch at the top. We rode to the top twice. I can tell it’s been weeks since I last rode, but we’ll get out more now.
Thanks to Ron and Ellis for loaning their bike bags so we could bring our bikes to NZ!
