The barber and the butcher

Each part of Wellington is organized into a neighborhood. They are small and feel a bit fluid. Our neighborhood, Island Bay, is far enough from the city that it feels like a suburb, but close enough that the trip into the city is quick. Island Bay seems about 100 years old, and a part of the city made mostly up of Edwardian Cottage style houses with lots of wood and stained glass. The houses show lots of personality and variation with each design. I love how family oriented it is. The area is famous for attracting "greenies" (those who are environmentally conscientious) and Greek families that still go out on the boats each day to fish. Our downtown section is on "The Parade" and has a small collection of shops a few blocks long. They seem to come from a couple of generations ago, and are very charming. We have no McDonalds. The "takeaway" food places include the pizza shop "Hell" that Mark showed in an earlier post, and two or three Indian restaurants. There are also a couple of fish and chips places that are popular for the beach crowds on sunny days, a pie shop, and two cafes; The Blue Belle seems like the town favorite.
