We have driven a friend’s car a few times and driving on the left side of the road is definitely taking some getting used to. I have learned NOT to trust my instincts because, as our friend here tells me, everything is like driving in the States, just in reverse. They have a lot of roundabouts here and going round clockwise feels totally wrong! We think we will buy a cheap used car, but it is going to take us a while to get used to driving. The roads are narrow and winding and drivers seem to be an interesting combination of polite but aggressive / assertive. I think Jonathan will fit right in! The other day as we were making our way downtown, Jonathan was driving and had to cut in front of an Aston Martin to make a turn, and no one seemed to mind.
Jonathan and I came across a residential road that was wide enough for a single lane but potentially has two-way traffic and had cars parked on the side. My mouth was literally agape as we crept along. In the same neighborhood there was a road that had a 20% grade, with cars parked on the side.
